Service In the Park
One Sunday each November we gather at a local park for a special service.
Date: Sunday, November 11, 2012
Time: 10:30 am
Location: Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve Pavilion Area, 5901 Los Rios Blvd., Plano TX, 75074
It's time once again for our annual Service in the Park. Join us in the great outdoors on November 11th for Sunday service. We are returning to the beautiful Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve in Plano, just 5 minutes from the church location.
Our guest speaker this year is Amy Martin. A prolific writer and speaker, Amy has dedicated 25 years to the study and celebration of the spectrum of spiritual traditions, and has served as the creator and producer for numerous seasonal and spiritual events in Dallas including Winter SolstiCelebration, now in its 20th year. Amy has led services for many other UU churches in the area and we are welcoming her back to join us after her Adult RE series at Ccommunity UU Church. To read more about Amy, visit Moonlady Media.
This year's Service in the Park is a celebration of nature and the season along with the monthly theme of Forgiveness. In honor of Veterans Day, we will be having a ceremony to pay tribute to military service members that are part of our community. We are lucky to once again have music provided by the First Friday Folksingers.
Following the service, all are invited to return to the church building for a delicious lunch buffet at 12:00 noon hosted by our friends from the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Center of Dallas. After lunch, plan to join together in the Sanctuary for a singing session from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm. It promises to be a good time sharing food, music, and goodwill.
If you are planning a first-time visit to our church on November 11th - by all means please come to this special service. You are welcome to join us. We will not be having our usual Religious Education for Children and Youth on this date - kids are welcome to come with their families to the park.
A note on comfort during the service: In keeping with tradition, the Service in the Park happens "rain or shine" - so please dress for the weather as we will be outside for over an hour. The seating in the park pavilion consists of metal picnic tables - if you require different seating to be comfortable during the service please plan ahead. Cushions and camping chairs are welcome.
