What's Going On?

New UU Class

This class is offered several times a year to visitors and guests attending our church. It is designed to help you decide whether this congregation meets your needs and how you might want to connect with us. The class covers information about our denomination and this church and is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet with other faith seekers and to learn about their experiences and share your own journey. For more details about the New UU Class, see How Do I Join?

The class forms the framework for becoming a member of this congregation and often strengthens a participant’s commitment to join. We in turn are strengthened by your voices both within and without our walls.

A New UU Workshop will be offered on Sat. August 23, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 1 PM.

Invitation: We invite all those interested visitors and friends who would like to find out more about
Unitarian Universalism, its historical roots, and the principles that form the foundation of each
person's religious journey, to join us on this day. This workshop allows participants to become
ready for membership or become better-informed and active friends of the church.

Agenda: The first part of the workshop will provide a setting for participants to get to know
each other and our minister Patrick Price, and to share stories of their own religious journeys.
The second hour is devoted to exploring our early roots derived from a Judeo-Christian heritage
with earlier thinkers exploring new concepts that challenged orthodox thinking about salvation
and the unity of God. American thinkers such as the Transcendentalists will be explored as well
as the tradition of social action with Unitarian Universalist congregations. The third portion presents
the seven principles of Unitarian Universalism in an interactive discussion.

During the last portion of the workshop, participants share a lunch while a few long-time members discuss their roles and the church structure. The many activities available to members and friends will also be discussed.

Lunch: a sandwich and fruit buffet will be provided. Please let us know of any special dietary needs and we will be happy to provide it.

Childcare will be provided. Let us know if you will use this service.

3rd Annual Fourth of July Picnic

Join us for a late afternoon/ebening picnic in our "park." Fellowship hour will commence at 5:00 pm in the shade of one of the large trees; games & fun between 5:00 pm and 7:00 om; pot luck picnic (burgers and hot dogs provided by the church) served off the chuckwagon at 7:00 pm; sing-along with the First Friday Folksingers after dinner; climaxing with the fireworks display easily seen from our church, after dark.

Bring your pot luck contribution; your own refreshments and lawn chairs to sit on.

Bring a frisbee or footballto toss, or any games that can be played on the parking lot (use your imagination) - the east half of the parking lot will be cordoned off for no parking.

We'll also need a few volunteers for traffic control at the west entrance (30 minute shifts; canopy cover provided) to keep the general public from using our church as their parking lot for viewling the fireworks display.

Contact Activities to let us know how many willl be attending and to sign up to help.

We're expanding!

As church attendance and membership has grown, so has enrollment in our excellent Religious Education program: to 110 children! In short, we're bursting at the seams and need additional space. After thoroughly researching all options, it was decided to build a two-classroom structure adjacent to the church. The design was presented at the annual meeting where the congregation approved the financing, and you will see construction in the near future.
