Over the years, many volunteers have offered their time and energy to help out, and the opportunity to make a positive impact is great. According to the 2016-2017 Texas Academic Performance Report, 86% of Barron\u2019s students are\u00a0\u201ceconomically disadvantaged,\u201d which is defined as being eligible for free or reduced lunch or other\u00a0public assistance. About 65% of students are considered \u201cat-risk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>How do we help?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Volunteers from CUUC work directly with students and teachers in many ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tutoring individual pupils<\/li>\n<li>Mentoring students who need extra help<\/li>\n<li>Working in the school library<\/li>\n<li>Serving as teacher resource room helpers: printing, cutting, and gathering classroom educational tools<\/li>\n<li>Assisting at special school events, like their Fall Festival<\/li>\n<li>Serving as field trip\u00a0chaperones and camp counselors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each year we also collect specific health and school supplies to donate to Barron. Teachers ordinarily pay for these needed classroom supplies out of their\u00a0own pocket.
