Community Harvest Garden Amazing Success

Community Harvest Gardeners donated 2,370 pounds of fresh organic produce to God’s Pantry this year. On January 4, ten gardeners began 2025’s harvest with a delivery of 150 pounds, including 54 pounds of beautiful turnips. Plants started at gardener’s homes helped us harvest record crops of tomatoes, okra and peppers. Since 2008 we’ve shared 16.5 tons with those experiencing food-insecurity.  We produce 2 cubic yards of quality compost from garden scraps every two months.  We’ve been grateful for support from Boy Scouts, high school students, the First United Methodist Church Mission Group twice a year and local companies in tackling big projects.  In addition to our 25 adopted plots, we maintain several community demonstration gardens: a plant tower, keyhole garden, and a hugelkultur mound. To meet some gardeners and learn more about the garden, join us in harvesting Saturday mornings at 7:30 a.m. or contact harvest@communityuuchurch.org.
