Dr. Phillips will discuss how the American right wing’s current efforts to demonize Muslims, strip them of constitutional rights, and even deport them resembles the intense anti-Catholic rhetoric that poisoned American politics from the 1840s to the 1960s.  He will describe the harms that anti-Catholic prejudice caused American society for more than a century.  He will conclude by analyzing what motivates the current anti-Muslim hate and the dangers to our community Islamophobia represent.
