After graduating from Carnegie Mellon, Pastor Brock earned a Masters in Divinity from Harvard Divinity School. He received a scholarship from Oxford and ended up spending the next 35 years as a member of the theology faculty and chaplain and director of ministerial education at Mansfield College. He retired in 1998 and returned to his home town, where he was soon recruited to be pastor of First Universalist Church in Girard, PA., and to be on faculty at Penn State. He is also Director of the Institute on the American Dream which organizes academic and community programs that examine the American dream through literature, sociology, race, religion, gender, economics and local conditions while investigating a vision for the future.
